Barcelona Mapping COAC

2015 Barcelona Mapping COAC Curators: Fernando Marzá, Gemma Moles, Álvaro Clua “The Architects’ Association of Catalonia presents a new permanent installation on the City of Barcelona, which can be visited in the headquarters’ lobby. This installation consists of a model of Barcelona, at 1/4,000 scale, on which audiovisual projections are screened through mapping technology, thus explaining different ideas and concepts about our city and its history. ‘Model of Barcelona. Projections on the City’ is intended to bring to the public different architectural and urban realities of Barcelona, and at the same time create debate about them. The model provides the opportunity to visualize all that the city is offering, captivate the audience and become a benchmark when it comes to the understanding of the urban and architectural evolution of the city. Programme  The installation opens with the screening of the audiovisual ‘Building the Contemporary Barcelona’, produced by F. Marzá, Gemma Molas and curated by Álvaro Clua. This video shows the history and growth of the city, explaining the urban events that have helped it become one of the capitals of the world. Throughout the year, the installation will feature successive videos which will focus on issues such as the relationship between different neighbourhoods, the shaping of […]

Barcelona Metropolis: 1975-2015
LUB-AMB

2015·01·29-04·25 Barcelona Metropolis: 1975-2015 Section of the exhibition “Barcelona Metròpolis”, Área Metropolitana de Barcelona, DHUB-Barcelona, Curators of this section: Maria Rubert and Josep Parcerisa, LUB Production and coordination: Laia Alemany and Álvaro Clua Production team: Anna Fabregat, Pau del Campo, Marina Munar Edition of the catalogue: Carles Crosas   “The period 1975-2015 corresponds to the great growth of Barcelona under the PGM and its development as a large European metropolis. In these years the urban area of its metropolitan cities has doubled. The transformation has focused on modernising infrastructures, the change of scale of the urban fabric, formalising a new structure of green public spaces and the development of large metropolitan artefacts.” “The motorways which began to be built in the early 1970s have been completed. Since 1992, the new Barcelona ring roads have profoundly changed how the metropolitan city is used, while bypasses and major roads provide new links to various towns. In urban centres, streets and avenues have been brought under control and urbanized, and the space allocated to pavements and trees has increased. Where necessary, cut and cover tunnels have been built to preserve environmental conditions in overexposed neighbourhoods. The trains remain where they were, but an […]

“Territorial hypotheses after forty years of amendments to the
General Metropolitan Plan”

2014 “Territorial hypotheses after forty years of amendments to the General Metropolitan Plan” Quaderns Pla Director Urbanístic-AMB, 5, 6-51 Together with Josep Parcerisa “In the context of the preliminary studies for the Urbanistic Metropolitan Plan, it is particularly interesting to make a close analysis of the specific amendments to the General Metropolitan Plan (PGM). It might seem to be an ordinary planning procedure, fitting, like others, into the complex history of protocols which, basically, has been used to structure the physical construction of metropolitan Barcelona. But its systematic use for various reasons during the years the PGM has been in force has made it an excellent viewpoint for seeing what has happened to us. Why, then, must we focus on something apparently so specific? Because isolated amendments (mPGMs) have, over thirty-five years, been the channel for expressing and integrating all the new urban policies that have been made according to the political agendas that have succeeded one another on the metropolitan scene. The mPGM has been the instrument that has made these possible, even though they were not foreseen in 1976 or even sometimes contradict was established then. The ordinary procedure driving the PGM has certainly been derived planning, as […]

The issue of links is as relevant and necessary today as it was 100 years ago. We present situations that have become obscured by accumulated prejudice but which could be opportunities for a more integrated, intense city. This book presents maps and views, seminar discussions, articles and lessons, surveys, diagrams with hypotheses, scans of fabrics, sketches, floor plans, elevations and sections of alternative projects at the service of an enthusiastic and determined city. How can we make Barcelona bigger and better? How can we take it further to connect the parts of the metropolis and break down internal barriers?”

Porta de Collserola Ciutat Meridiana
Barcelona

2012 Porta de Collserola-Ciutat Meridiana Barcelona Competition · Together with Josep Parcerisa and Josep Llorca, architects 1) LA CLAVE 9.

Landscape and new facilites
in Torre-Negra
Collserola Park, Barcelona
